Olive Garden

OGmenu

Olive Garden, or as I like to call it “OG,” is one of my favorite places for Italian. Now, I know what you’re thinking, but when it comes to family owned, Josh and haven’t had good luck with Italian restaurants and it’s hit or miss. I like OG for their consistency and great promotions. For date night, Josh and I dined at the Warren location, on Van Dyke. See how they ranked.

Atmosphere: 2 out of 5 bites (It was a little bright)

Price: 4 out of 5 bites

Quality/Taste: 3.5 out of 5 bites

Service: 4 out of 5 bites

Wow Factor: 2 out of 5 bites

Of course, we had to get an Alfredo boat with our buttery, garlicy breadsticks: Nothing is better than soft, warm bread fresh from the oven with creamy Alfredo sauce.

Before 6 p.m, OG offers the “Tastes of Italy” appetizers all under $5.

We went with Tortellini al Forno: Cheese-filled tortellini in a parmesan cream sauce, topped with prosciutto ham crumbles. This appetizer was light, cheesy, and delicious. The prosciutto added a slight saltiness to balance the rich parmesan cream sauce.

I always tease Josh for ordering minestrone soup because I prefer to try unique soups that you normally couldn’t get out of a can, like Chicken & Gnocchi, for example. However, OG has a really hearty minestrone that is actually really flavorful with beans, veggies, and pasta.

Josh went with one of OG’s current promotions: Cucina Mia (Create your own pasta): Tri-colored vegetable penne, grilled chicken breast, with a Asiago garlic cream sauce. The sauce was similar to Alfredo, but lighter. Delicious and affordable!

I decided to get wild and order Crab topped Chicken and the results were just OK: Pan-seared chicken breasts topped with crab meat in a lemon cream sauce. Served with fresh spinach and garlic parmesan mashed potatoes. Instead of the lemon cream sauce, I opted for the Asiago garlic cream sauce. The chicken breast was breaded, delicious, and went well with the sauce. The mashed potatoes were awesome! I wasn’t too fond of the crab because it wasn’t as fresh as I expected. The spinach was really fresh, so fresh that it wasn’t sauteed and just thrown on the plate. I’m not sure if this was because I asked for a substitute on the sauce, but it was served on the side causing the whole dish to look nothing like the picture on the menu. Once I poured the sauce over the chicken and spinach, the meal was good, but it was poorly executed.

I like going to Olive Garden for their unlimited soup, salad, and breadsticks. They also keep their menu fresh by using seasonal ingredients and offering different promotions. For a girl that likes variety, this works for me. There’s a reason why OG often has a wait and for a franchise, they do things right.
